A Day in Ulsan

On Saturday we boarded a bus and went to Ulsan, South Korea for the day.  The father of one of our TCIS students works at Hyundai Heavy Industries and the company offered to host any TCIS staff that would be interested in seeing their headquarters and ship building site in Ulsan.  Ulsan is located on the South Eastern tip of South Korea.  It is the home of Hyundai Heavy Industries, the largest shipbuilding company in the world. 

We all enjoyed a tour of the ship building site, a wonderful lunch buffet at Ulsan University and then we spent an hour or so walking through Ulgi Park and viewing Daewangam Rock.  The ocean view was terrific.  It was a great day of seeing the sights and exploring more of the amazing country of South Korea.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Big Bike Ride

On Sunday morning  during Chuseok Break the Roberts family and the Miller family took a big bike ride together.  (We attended church on Saturday night.)  We filled our water bottles, loaded our  backpacks and baskets with food, donned our bike helmets and hit the trail headed for the Daecheong Dam and a great view of Daecheonghosu Lake. 

We traveled the nine miles of bike path from our apartment complexes to the dam.  It was a great ride.  Along the way we saw some beautiful scenery.  We came upon a flock of white egrets and we encountered a huge spider.

We ate our picnic lunch on a flat in the park, enjoyed a great view of the lake and took advantage of the clean restroom facilities at the Daecheong Dam Park.  There were lots of people at the park wearing the traditional Hanboks in honor of the Chuseok Holiday.  The lake, the colorful Hanboks, the people and the smiles all came together in collage of beauty.

Sarah's New Bike

We are well into our seventh year of living in Asia.  When we moved to South Korea Sarah was just starting fifth grade.  She learned how to ride a bike in the USA, but didn't get a lot of time and opportunity to hone her skills as a bicyclist.

For the last seven years Sarah hasn't had a bike.  She has been riding planes, buses, subways, trains and taxis, but no bikes.  So, she finds herself a bit shaky on a bicycle.  (That is why she has been so willing to ride in the second seat on the tandem bike with Gentry.)

But those days are no more!  Sarah has a bike in Korea and she chose a stylish one.  Who needs the shock absorbers and rugged build of a mountain bike or the elaborate gearing and sleek design of a road bike when you can get a cute cruiser complete with basket, bell and horn.  Sarah looks good on her new bike and is getting better at riding with every trip she takes.
