Lemonade and Laughter

How much lemonade can Granddad drink?  We were at a Chili's Restaurant in Twin Falls and the lemonade was refillable.  After Granddad had downed way too many lemonades (before the meal arrived) there was a comment about how much was too much.  Even though Granddad was nearly waterlogged he kept drinking and Sarah thought Granddad was funny.  We ate our dinner, the waitress kept bringing lemonades, Granddad kept drinking and Sarah kept laughing.

The 50th

The main reason we all converged at Couer d'Alene this summer was to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Tom and Carol Cuffe (Dina's parents).  It was a great celebration.  The weekend was full of family time, sitting around the campfire, way too much food, two cakes and a lot of fun.

Silverwood Fun

A part of our Couer d'Alene adventure included a trip to the Silverwood Amusement Park.  It was a great day full of rollercoasters, ferris wheels, bumper cars and merrry-go-rounds.  We even had fun riding the Tilt-A-Hurl...I mean Whirl.  One of  the most enjoyable parts about Silverwood was watching little Johanna and Logan enjoy the rides and have fun times with their cousins.

 

 

 

 

 

Headed North

From Boise the Oliver/Roberts clan made the long and beautiful trip North to Couer d'Alene, Idaho.  We met up with Dina's family (the Cuffes) to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Dina's parents, Tom and Carol.  We all gathered at a campground located at the end of the lake.  Some people brought their campers, but the Roberts/Olivers stayed in camper cabins.  It was a fun time of playing volleyball, swimming, boating, sitting around the campfire and laughing.

Cupcake Wars

During the time that the Oliver's were visiting Boise the Roberts and the Olivers were invited to participate in the first ever "ChrisLizCharleeMax Cupcake Wars."  It was a cupcake decorating contest and it was intense!

The cupcakes were provided along with the materials for decorating the cupcakes.  The rules were: that within twenty minutes each team had to decorate their cupcakes using all-natural, edible items.  At the end of the time the cupcakes were judged and a winning team was chosen.  Oh, and then the cupcakes were eaten.  It was a great time!

The Olivers

We had so many fun times this summer and they all revolved around people.  In early July the Oliver family came to Boise to visit us.  They stayed in a hotel and the cousins had a blast playing together in the pool, watching to the Independence Day fireworks, going to movies and hanging out.  The twin sisters enjoyed their time together and the brother-in-laws had a good time too!

Cabin and Cousins

One of the highlights of our summer break was being able to spend some time with Aunt LaVonne and the Yadon family.  This year we enjoyed hanging out with them all up at a cabin in Donnelly, Idaho.  It was so beautiful and relaxing in that place.

We had fun playing in lake with Lukas and Brock, it was a rush to drive the 4-wheeler and the lunch (thanks Aunt LaVonne) was delicious.  It was a great memory.  Here are some pictures.

 

 

College Visits

Summertime is always fun and full of the unexpected, but this year definitely included a first...college visits.  Becca will be a senior in high school this year and this summer we visited a couple of university campuses.  First, we stopped over in San Diego on our way home from Korea and we visited the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).  The campus location is amazing as nearly every dorm, building and facility on the campus is located on the beach and overlooks the Pacific Ocean.  PLNU looked like a great place to go to school, but a very hard place to study.

Our second college visit was our (Ryan and Dina's) old alma mater, Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) in Nampa, Idaho.  (not quite San Diego...)  Oh the memories...  We had a great visit and were happy to sense the familar, warm community spirit on the campus.  Becca will apply to both PLNU and NNU and to some other colleges and we will be praying for God's guidance in her life.

Charlee

We spent another wonderful summer staying in the basement of Charlee's grandparents' home.  They are treasured friends and Charlee and her little brother are fantastic kids to hang out with.  Charlee took a cake decorating class at the beginning of the summer and she made me (Ryan) a "graduation" cake.  I loved it!

We made so many fun memories with our friends in Boise.  One night we hung out with Henry the Hawk at the Boise Hawks baseball game!

San Diego

San Diego was our first stop on the way home from South Korea.  We spent five wonderful days in that beautiful city laying around the pool, basking in the California sunshine and recovering from jet lag.  However, we didn't waste all of our time just lounging around getting sun burned.   We spent a day at SeaWorld where we enjoyed the shows, avoided the "splash zones" and cheered for Shamu and we used the better part of another day making a college visit at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).  Becca will be a high school senior this year and the prayer filled hunt for college/university has begun.  We loved San Diego!
