Out Loud

Becca took a class this year at TCIS called "Outloud."  It was taught by David Miller.  It was a class focused upon musical expression and creativity utilizing percussion and rhythm.  She loved the class.  Here a clip from their end of the year presentation.

 

 

(LOUD) Worship Concert

In March we bought tickets to the Hillsong United "Aftermath" Tour concert to be held in Seoul.  In June we went to the concert.  It was a great time.  (and super loud)  We all took a bus up to the Olympic Park in Seoul, stood in line for hours and finally packed into the stadium.  We were in the standing area and when I say packed into the stadium I mean "packed."  The concert was amazing (and super loud) but the number of people standing together, singing, jumping, dancing and praising God was unbelieveable. 

We enjoyed the concert with about fifty other friends from TCIS. (SUPER LOUD)  It was a night of good memories.  We all left the concert with smiles and it was worth it for me (Ryan) to hear, above the ringing in my ears and the pounding in my head, Becca and Sarah say, "It was the best concert we have ever been to!"

Out With the Old

As mentioned in an earlier post, this is TCIS's last year of school on its current campus.  This summer the entire campus will be moved off of its fifty-three year old home to a new home and location in Techno Valley.  The impending move is and has been both an exciting and melancholy time for many staff, students and alumni.

During our staff farewell, the TCIS work crew symbolically took down the TCIS seal from the school's main building.  It will be placed in the new building at Techno Valley.  They also tried to remove the cornerstone nameplate of the school from when it was called Korea Christian Academy (KCA).  The nameplate did not let go easily.  It will come out eventually (hopefully in one piece).

As you can see, Stephen and Becca were awash with emotions that evening.

School is Out

It is hard to believe that another school year is over.  One of the big end of the year activities in the high school is the high school awards assembly.  Becca and Sarah both came away from event with awards in hand.  Sarah was granted the "Balanced" award in the ninth grade and Becca was granted the "Risk-Taker" award in the eleventh grade.  Becca and Sarah have made the most of this year, given their best and have made their parents proud.

The biggest year end activity at TCIS is graduation.  97 seniors graduated this year from TCIS.  It was the 50th graduating class in the school's history and it was the last graduation on the current campus.  Next year's graduation will be held on the new school campus at Techno Valley.

Prom 2011

Prom happened again in our house (and at the school) and it was a splendid affair.  Becca went with her beau, Tim, and Sarah went with Chanho, a good friend from TCIS.

The Prom was held at a fancy hotel in Daejeon.  It was a rainy night (as usual) but that didn't dampen any spirits.  The word is that... Prom was a blast.  Becca and Tim ended up with the honor of being crowned the Junior Class Prince and Princess.

It was fun for Becca and Sarah to share the Prom experience together.  From this father's point of view...they are both beautiful princesses.

NYC-a quick visit

Last month, when Dina and I went to the East coast of the United States to attend my DMin graduation in New Jersey we took the opportunity to make a quick trip to New York City. 

We were fortunate to be able to take in two Broadway shows while we were there.  We went and saw The Lion King and we saw Jersey Boys.  Both shows were amazing.  On the Sunday morning that we were in NYC we took the subway to Brooklyn and attended the 9:00 a.m. worship service at the Brooklyn Tabernacle.  It was a real treat.  NYC is an amazing place to visit.
